Vulnerability, new experience and a change of attitude informs Eves Karydas’ blinding single and official video titled ‘There For You’, out now via Dew Process / Universal Music Australia.

The track, produced and mixed by Chris Zane (Passion Pit, Bat For Lashes), covers the vast musical influences and territory she’s already explored in her relatively short career so far – marrying her pop sensibilities with her penchant for studio experimentation, and her uncanny knack to pen clever, thoughtful and sometimes mystic lyrics. It also takes inspiration from the great sense of displacement that only comes with relocating one’s life to the other side of the globe – away from friends, family and everything familiar and comfortable.

Arriving in London at 20-years-old, having moved halfway across the world from Brisbane on her own, Eves pushed herself into unfamiliar relationships and environments, which brought a remarkable maturity and sensuality to her effervescent pop music as evidenced in ‘There For You’

“In many ways, ‘There For You’ is my love letter to my life abroad,” says Karydas. “I was trying to form relationships as a new person in a foreign city away from friends and family, and yet everyone I met was already so deeply ingrained in their own lives and circles. It was so challenging. But I met the right person and suddenly that challenge was worth fighting for.”

The gorgeous new video for the single was shot in an abandoned mansion in Los Angeles and directed by creative director Clare Gillen, who’s previously worked with pop heavyweights Haim and Blood Orange. That pedigree, in the eyes of Karydas, made the two a perfect creative partnership.

“I knew straight away that Clare was the right person to bring the music to life. I hold the importance of visuals very highly, so to shoot the work with her was an amazing way to allow the visuals to grow into a solid concept on their own.

With this song, Clare really understood the unguarded nature of it and that the video had to be equally stripped back. She knew how to capture my weirdness and my look and we established this weird mix of old meets new meets doe-eyed meets sensual.’

Eves Karydas’ initial project Eves the Behavior, described as ‘disillusioned pop’, documented a young woman finding her place in the world, who looked toward female heroines such as Joan of Arc and Joan Didion for influence and incentive. Now 23-years-old; a new city, new friends and unguarded experience, Eves Karydas explores female strength, owning your sexuality, and deep melodic hooks to challenge the pop sphere.
