Opening up a whole new dynamic oh his music, today Beach Slang’s James Alex releases his first music as Quiet Slang and the EP We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags via Dew Process.

This new EP is both a tender reimagining of the thunderous music of Alex’s usual outfit, as well as a touching tribute to his musical heroes. It features covers of Beach Slang signatures ‘Future Mixtape For The Art Kids’ and ‘Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas,’ as well as Big Star’s ‘Thirteen’ and The Replacements ‘Androgynous.’

The subdued, stripped down approach of the four tracks lose nothing in their new configuration, and instead gain a sense of warmth and texture – thanks to the composition of acoustic instruments, including gentle piano keys, sweetly strummed acoustic guitar strings, and soothingly bowed cello strings.

Speaking of his decision to make this “Quiet Slang” EP, Alex says, “I suppose we’re all chasing something that resembles salvation, something that calms our bones. Maybe this is some small slice of that. Maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s chaos in soft clothes. Maybe it’s frightened. Maybe it’s fearless. Maybe it’s both. Or maybe it’s nothing. I don’t know, but I think about this: one day I’m going to be dust. And when my soul splits, maybe this will be the thing that sneaks me through the gates. If not, well, those are the breaks.”

After his band established themselves as one of the most exciting new voices of rock in 2015, Beach Slang’s Alex has gone on to prove himself to be one of the true champions of modern rock and roll, and had his sung his praises sung by the likes of Pitchfork, Noisey, Rolling Stone and triple j.

Beach Slang established themselves as Australian favourites in late 2015 with The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us landing a prestigious place as a triple j Feature Album, and with the band touring the country to perform at Splendour In The Grass in 2016, as well as a string of packed out sideshows.

The Quiet Slang, We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags EP is only set to cement that relationship further.
