Melbourne’s electronic-rap pioneers Milwaukee Banks return with new single ‘The City,’ out now via Dot Dash / Remote Control Records. Premiering last night on Home and Hosed with Dom Alessio on triple j, It is their first new music since the release of their critically acclaimed debut album Deep Into The Night.
The production on ‘The City’ gives way for a booming bass line, surging through a neon-bright, electrified soundscape. Dyl Thomas guides you through, delivering some of his most uninhibited, direct lyricism and flows to date. Resonating with an energy of ambition, this marks the return of a duo ready to burst past the boundaries of the new wave in Australian rap, a scene that is exploding in 2017.
Dyl describes the meaning behind the song: “In a world where artists are watching what everyone else is doing, we move in our own lane, unconcerned, keeping to ourselves and moving quiet through the city, letting our music do the talking.”
After ending a busy 2016 with nominations for best Hip Hop album in both the Victorian Music Awards and the Australian Independent AIR awards for their debut Deep Into The Night, the timing is ripe for Milwaukee Banks to deliver their boldest set of collaborative work to date, a further exploration into forward-thinking sounds and styles unlike anything Australian rap has heard before.
