Going from strength to strength, unsigned Perth rockers Small Town Heroes have revealed an exciting list of co-writes as they record their debut album in LA with punk rock legends John Feldmann and Blink-182’s Travis Barker.
Earlier this month, the band announced production had begun on their highly anticipated next release, and now Small Town Heroes can confirm Twenty One Pilots’ Josh Dun, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, The Living End’s Chris Cheney, Rachael West, Fiona Bevan, Nick Bailey, James Bourne (Busted), and Feldmann have co-written songs for the album.
“It really allowed us to explore a more personal avenue of songwriting,” vocalist Josh Raven explains. “We were able to focus on what we really wanted to write about, how it relates to us/others as a whole and the message we want to convey. “I feel like we’re discovering tools to really create music that is just a pure reflection of us, as people and as a sound.”
The transformation of Small Town Heroes in recent weeks sees the Perth band reinvent themselves to some degree while retaining the core elements that secured them a dedicated hometown fan base and buzz around the globe since forming only a couple of years ago. “Fans can expect a change,” Raven comments on their new song writing style. “I think they will love the direction we’re heading because it’s not just us. It’s the most unique possible version of us and we’re still finding incredible ways to keep putting pieces of ourselves we didn’t know we had into this new music.
“Pushing barriers and comfort zones to really make this something unique not only to us but to everyone else.” The volume of material written while in the studio – alongside the countless songs and ideas developed with Feldmann in the months before they left for LA – showcases the dedication and passion the local rockers pertain. “I couldn’t be more certain that we’re now heading in a direction that really is starting to identify us as individuals and a band,” Raven says. “We also have an incredibly kind, understanding fan base and that only motivates us further to try new things.”
